AIFC Chess Tournament
July 30-31, 2024
when
We are thrilled to invite you to the AIFC Chess Tournament, a prestigious event that promises to be a true test of strategy, skill, and intellect. Scheduled for July 30 and 31 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM, this tournament is more than just a game; it's a celebration of the brilliant minds within our community.
Tournament Structure and Rules
  • The tournament will follow a Swiss-system format, featuring 6 intense rounds where each move counts. In this format, players will not be eliminated; instead, they will face opponents with similar scores, ensuring a fair and challenging competition for all. Each game will be played in a blitz format, with 10 minutes per player, demanding quick thinking and precise execution.
  • We adhere strictly to chess etiquette and rules, including the touch-move rule. This means once a piece is touched, it must be moved, unless it's an illegal move. Players are also required to press the clock with the same hand they used to move their piece, and black gets to choose the clock's placement. These rules ensure a professional and respectful atmosphere, where strategy and concentration are paramount.
  • The event will kick off in the London Hall conference room (block C 3.2). Please arrive by 12:55 PM to avoid missing the welcome speech and draw. Punctuality is crucial as the clock starts ticking right at the scheduled time. If a player is not present within the first 10 minutes, their opponent automatically wins that round, gaining a full point.
  • We encourage all participants to download the Chess clock app by chess.com on their phones to keep track of time during the matches. This small preparation step ensures a smooth and fair experience for everyone.
