Ainur, thank you for joining us. Let’s start with your background. Could you tell us about your educational path and how it prepared you for a career in law?
ainur
Thank you! My academic journey started at the 24th lyceum of Economics and Business in Taldykorgan, the same school that our esteemed governor attended, which is something I’m proud of. I then went on to earn my bachelor’s degree in international law from the Kazakh National University, named after Al-Farabi. I was also fortunate to study in France as part of an exchange program, which gave me valuable international experience.
How did that lead you to AIFC?
After completing my bachelor’s, I pursued a master’s degree in international law at Maksud Narekpaev University in Astana. Before joining AIFC, I worked at Seven Pillars, a respected law firm that’s also an AIFC participant. That experience was essential in deepening my understanding of AIFC’s values and structure. I also interned at several state bodies, including Grata and KazTrade, which provided a well-rounded foundation for my career.
And now you’re with AIFC Authority’s Legal Development Department. Could you walk us through your role?
Sure. In the Legal Development Department, we focus on providing legal expertise and monitoring the legal regimes of leading financial centres. We work on developing AIFC’s legal framework and oversee the assessment of draft acts for the centre. In addition, we manage two key offices: the Office of the Commissioner for Data Protection and the Security Registrar`s Office. It’s a dynamic role where each project flows seamlessly into the next.
It sounds like a lot of responsibility! What’s the work environment like here?
The environment at AIFC is both comfortable and supportive. My colleagues are incredibly professional, and we have a high level of corporate culture here. One of the things I value most is the openness and collaboration. We can brainstorm ideas freely, discuss work-related topics, and even talk about broader topics, which helps us grow both professionally and personally.
It seems like you have a great balance at work. What about outside the office? Any hobbies that help you recharge?
Absolutely! I have a few hobbies that keep me energized. I take dance classes, play the piano, and I read a lot. I also enjoy helping students with math; it’s a subject I’ve always loved.
Dance and math – that’s a unique mix! What style of dance do you enjoy the most?
I love hip-hop! It’s such a fun way to stay active and express myself creatively.
And you mentioned reading. Any book recommendations?
Yes, I started a book club with friends, and a recent favorite is `A Little Life` by Hanya Yanagihara. It’s a moving story with deep life lessons, and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a powerful read.
What’s the main message you’ve taken away from the book, or from reading in general?
I’d say that life is precious, and we should always strive for a healthy work-life balance and focus on self-development. Investing in ourselves, both personally and professionally, brings joy and fulfillment.
Wonderful advice, Ainur. Thank you so much for sharing your story and insights with us. It’s clear you bring passion and dedication to both your role and your life outside of work.
Thank you! It’s been a pleasure. I’m grateful to be part of AIFC and to have the chance to contribute here.
