H.E. Mr. To Lam Visits Astana International Financial Centre as Part of State Visit to Kazakhstan
The Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC) had the honour of welcoming His Excellency Mr. To Lam, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, as part of his state visit to Kazakhstan.
Prior to his visit to the AIFC, H.E. Mr. To Lam held high-level talks with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at Akorda. Both leaders reaffirmed the strong and steadily expanding partnership between Kazakhstan and Viet Nam, noting the significant progress achieved in recent years. In 2024, bilateral trade between the two nations approached USD 1 billion. Although current investment levels stand at approximately USD 5 million, both sides acknowledged the considerable untapped potential for further growth.
Viet Nam is currently developing its own financial hubs in Ho Chi Minh City and Danang, modelled in part on successful international centres such as the AIFC. These developments present new opportunities for collaboration in capital markets, green finance, and other financial sectors.
During the visit to the AIFC, the Governor of the Centre presented its key advantages to international businesses. These included the AIFC's common law-based legal framework, an independent judicial system, the Astana International Exchange (AIX), and the Astana Financial Services Authority (AFSA), all of which contribute to a transparent and stable environment for global investment. The Governor also introduced the AIFC Expat Centre, a comprehensive support hub for foreign professionals and their families relocating to Kazakhstan.
While touring the facility, H.E. Mr. To Lam remarked that he views the AIFC as a successful example of establishing and developing an international financial centre.
The visit underscored the substantial potential to deepen financial cooperation between Kazakhstan and Viet Nam, with the AIFC serving as a promising platform for future engagement.
