Many people think of Nauryz as a single holiday.
In reality, the tradition is much broader. The celebrations begin several days in advance and gradually lead up to the spring equinox.
The first day is March 14 – Körisu Kuni.
On this day people visit relatives, neighbors, and friends, greeting each other with the words “Körisu kutty bolsyn”, embracing and wishing one another well-being. The idea of the day is simple but meaningful: to reconnect after the long winter and restore social ties.
After that, a series of themed days begins in the lead-up to Nauryz:
- March 15 – Day of Charity (Qaiyrymdylyq Kuni)
- March 16 – Day of Culture and National Traditions (Mädeniet jäne ulttyq salt-dästür Kuni)
- March 17 – Family Day (Shanyraq Kuni)
- March 18 – National Clothing Day (Ulttyq Kiim Kuni)
- March 19 – Renewal Day (Jañaru Kuni), symbolizing the beginning of spring and renewal
- March 21–22 – Nauryz Meyramy, the main celebration of spring and the new year
Seen from a broader perspective, Nauryz is not just a holiday but a system of traditions through which society maintains and strengthens connections between people.
Interestingly, something similar happens in modern organizations. Researchers of organizational culture call this corporate anthropology - a field that studies how traditions and forms of interaction shape culture within organizations.
In essence, both in society and in companies the same principle applies:
people unite not only around tasks, but also around shared cultural practices.
